Aromatherapy--Post #3

Aromatherapy is a popular trend in today's society. It is so popular that Bath & Body Works even has their own aromatherapy line which sells very quickly. I even have some products myself. However, if I really think about it, it is strange how they have scents for love and comfort because these are complex feelings. Everyone feels love differently, and different things comfort different people, so how can one scent make everyone feel the same emotion? I also find it interesting how people in the PowerPoint denied the results of a scientific study, saying the results weren't true. These people have theory-induced blindness. They have accepted a theory and use it in their thinking and in every aspect of their lives, so it is very difficult for them to notice the flaws, even when proven wrong. Despite all the misconceptions about aromatherapy being brought to my attention, I still buy the products because they smell nice. I believe smelling something nice does make you feel happier, but with aromatherapy as a whole, there is just no scientific evidence for any physiological changes that occur as a result of using them.

  1. I completely agree with your view point, that some scents like "love" and "comfort" can be too complex to understand and mix into one scent. While some scents can help you relax since they smell nice, some emotions can be a bit of a stretch.
