Post 3- Mass Delusions & Hysteria

The panic and hysteria that supposedly came with the Orson Welles broadcast were actually gross exaggerations made by newspaper headlines in order to discredit radio as a source of news. Very few people actually listened to Welles broadcast and those that did knew it was just a show and not an actual news broadcast about aliens invading New Jersey. The Salem Witch Trials are undisputable however, several people were arrested and killed because some girls from the town were acting weird. But there was no witchcraft involved, it was a prank or possible ergot poisoning which has convulsive symptoms that could make someone look like they might be possessed by the devil or think a witch has cursed them.
