Post #3: Hypnosis and Alien Abductees

In class, we have learned about how clinicians would use hypnosis to help people recall past events as well as projective tests which help the clinician examine a person’s personality and gather information about their client. Hypnosis has been commonly used for UFO abductees and while the individual is under hypnosis they are able to describe being abducted and what they witnessed. However, we learned that this method can usually be ineffective and does not improve one’s ability to recall events. When the client is hypnotized, they are in a highly suggestive state and clinicians can have a strong influence on their clients so this can cause them to have false memories since the clinician can use suggestive cues and their client will believe that they experienced something that never actually occurred as a result. I personally don’t believe in aliens and UFO’s but I found a video of a hypnotherapist who specializes in alien abductions and UFO’s and she talks about her sessions with clients and what they have experienced. She describes a little bit of what her clients remember and she even talks about how some of them have claimed to have had sexual experiences with extraterrestrials. I find it shocking that people have claimed to have that type of experience with extraterrestrials and I find her opinion on this topic very interesting overall.

Here's the video I found:

Aliens (Post #3)

The question, "Do you believe in aliens?" has been said to everyone at least once in their lifetime. According to New York Post, around half of the humans on Earth believe that aliens exist, while the other half does not. Personally, I believe they do exist. Assuming that space is constantly expanding, there is and will be an infinite amount of space, meaning that a replica of this world we call Earth isn't too far-fetched. In my opinion, space is way to gigantic for Earth to be the anomaly for life. Another huge misconception among humans is what an alien would look like. I feel as though most people would expect to see a gray or green alien if we ever came into contact. Also, most people really don't think about how an alien could be just any living organism that doesn't come from Earth. Aliens don't have to resemble the shape or form of a human. An alien can look as small as an ant or as big as a whale. This article linked below, describes how some aliens would look depending on their ecosystem and geography!

Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 Abducted by Aliens?

In the book I have been reading for my report, Why People Believe Weird Things, and in the book assigned to us for the class, UFO's and aliens are discussed.  This intrigued me to look into recent news articles about UFO sightings.  An article written in the International Business Times on April 23, 2014 shed light on a belief that Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 was abducted by aliens.  Numerous bloggers on reason.com wrote that they had seen multiple UFO's around Malaysia before the Malaysian plane went missing.  Alexandra Bruce, a Brazilian-American author and filmmaker, reported that there were two "distinct anomalies" detected on Flight Radar 24, the last air traffic control track of the aircraft, before the plane went missing.  The blogger also wrote about a confirmation from Malaysian Air Force Chief, Rodzali Daud, that a signal was received by military radar from an unidentified flying object near the site of the plane's disappearance.
I have doubts about this belief.  Although I do believe in life on other planets, I do not believe in "aliens" here, or that Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 could have been abducted by them.  There is scientific evidence of the possibility of life outside of our planetary system, but so far, there is no credible evidence of the existence of "aliens" here.  My personal beliefs and my understanding of current physics stem from those findings.

The Bermuda Triangle

Remember the Bermuda Triangle? The much talked about area of water located between Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda seems to have lost its flare in the past few years with its most recent occurrence being in the year 2000. The Bermuda Triangle is responsible for many ship and plane disappearances that travel over or near the area with no known causes.
The first known suspicious activity occurring in the Bermuda Triangle was during Christopher Columbus’s voyage in October of 1492. He recorded in his log book during the time that he was in this area that there were “strange dancing lights on the horizon” and “flames in the sky.” He also recorded that his compass began to act strangely. Mysterious occurrences continued to arise in this area with the most famous being Flight 19. When the plane lost all of its communication and disappeared, search parties were sent out to find the missing crew only to have the same result as the previous flight. No one was able to recover any of these missing planes.
Many theories have arisen as to what causes these disappearances, some of which are aliens, gas, time warps, the lost city of Atlantis’ technology, pirates, weather, and loss of fuel. Some of these theories have caused people to panic. The media has fabricated reports leading people to have a fear of traveling over the area of the triangle and believing illogical theories. In reality, there have been more successful travels over the Bermuda Triangle than there have been disappearances.
When investigating the disappearances of these aircraft and ships, researchers have created ideas as to why and how these planes and ships disappeared, however none are facts so their true causes are, and will remain, unresolved. As stated, these are just theories. The mysterious Bermuda Triangle is still amazing people with its wonders and still remains a mystery to scientists, researchers, and paranormal theorists.

UF...O Really?

Regardless of when the world will end or how. There is one man convinced that he knows how mankind will be saved from destruction. That man, is Riley Martin. I overheard his radio show which airs on Howard Stern's Sirius network Tuesday nights. Although much of Stern and his shows are merely jest. I could quickly tell that the story this man is relaying was true, well at least to him.
Riley's Website gives the rundown of his tale. Basically he was abducted, twice when he was young. But he didn't remember the reasons for his abduction till he took Polaroid photos of UFO's much later in his life...and when to a Psychic to find out what the photos meant. Through his psychic therapy he...you guessed it. Remembered everything that happened to him. He believes that the aliens visited earth to unlock a block put in his mind years ago by the aliens. A meeting with the alien Tan, a member of one of the 6 races aboard the Mother ship stationed off of Saturn. The flashing images into Riley's mind and gave him the history of both man and extraterrestrial kind and instructions for the future, were all things he suddenly remembered in vivid detail.
As for the instructions, among the images are a number of images that he sells to the public in order to show the aliens that you are to be among the humans that will be selected from to leave the planet and save human kinds existence by starting new somewhere in the universe. Ohh but to get the images, which he already supposedly only he knows you have to purchase them along with submitting details like your parents ethnicity and a photo of yourself so he can draw it, because these images are custom and exclusive to you only. Buy them now tho because they are in limited numbers, only 144,000 images were downloaded into his brProxy-Connection: keep-alive
Cache-Control: max-age=0

n. But you dont need one of them to be selected to leave the planet, supposedly it just helps.
So is Riley Martin the chosen being to spread the word and save mankind's existance, maybe, maybe not. But last time I checked I'm not trusting shady unverified Polaroids of odd blurs that look in now way like spacecraft and more like a giant geese or something. Nor do I trust the magical remembrance of all of this over 20 years later due to a psychic reading. Who knows tho, if you want a sure fire chance at getting saved and hitching a ride off planet. Buy a Biavian Symbol fresh from the Mother ship of Tan the Alien directly through Riley Martins mind, or you can by one of his books, musical CD's, DVDs, posters, t-shirts, autographed photos, homade Cherokee beaded headbands, drawings of alien things, and last but not least his little friend Tan on a beer mug. Sounds like a bunch of a get rich quick schemes to me.

Is UFO-ology a Pseudoscience?

It is argued that the first UFO sightings can be traced back to 593 BC, in the Book of Ezekiel. In one of the passages, Ezekiel describes what many believe was a UFO sighting: “This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel.” (Ezekiel 1:16) And the most recent possible sighting happened just days ago in Florence, Kentucky. However, is there any hard scientific evidence to prove these are alien spaceships, or is this just another example of pseudoscience? There are people in the world today who have chosen to dedicate their lives to the study and discovery of UFOs and extraterrestrial life. Unfortunately for them, there are many skeptics who say that this entire field of study is baloney. Technically speaking, there has never been a case in which someone has successfully proved a UFO to be an alien spaceship, or a case in which aliens were discovered, at least that we know of. These researchers, also called UFOlogists, have no real scientific evidence to study besides examining pictures, videos, and sending signals into space trying to contact someone or something. In a time where everyone has access to a computer with video editing software it’s hard to call any picture or video credible. I came across some “evidence” that was flat out ridiculous, while some pictures and videos were somewhat believable.

Despite all of the critics, can this actually be considered an area of real science? If you take into consideration the size of the universe and number of stars, it’s hard to believe there isn’t any form of intelligent life somewhere else. Most scientists estimate there are over 100 billion stars in our universe, but are unsure of how many planets revolve around each. With those kinds of numbers, odds are there has got to be another planet out there with some form of intelligent life. But what are the odds they are as intelligent, or even more intelligent than we are?
