Aromatherapy is used as a holistic healing treatment to help promote the health of the body, mind and spirit. It works through the sense of smell, skin absorption and is suppose to enhance your physical, and emotional health. It has recently gained a lot more recognition for its properties in science and medicine. Aromatherapy uses natural extracts from plants and can also be referred to as essential oil therapy. Essential oils is most commonly used to put into an essential oil diffuser. Aromatherapy has been around for thousands of years, but has mixed views/opinions. Former chair of complementary medicine at the University of Exeter in the U.K, Dr. Edzard Ernst says that the experience of aromatic plant oils (whether you breathe it in or rub it on) may be pleasing, but that does not make it therapeutic. It is even mentioned that the evidence for beneficial effects of inhaling the smells they give off is weak. On the other side of the argument, research from the University of Vienna’s Gerhard Buchbauer says that some essential oils have the power to activate the central nervous system in ways that may increase your attention, sharpen your thinking and improve sleep habits or patterns.

You can use essential oils in many ways.

A few examples are:
  • In lotion
  • Essential Oil Diffuser
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Soap
  • In perfume
  • & In a bath
