There are many different UFO tales and movies, which can be why so many people believe they can be real. People tend to recall past events in a way that is consistent with current expectations, so if they believe they saw a UFO, they will subconsciously match their story to what we all expect a UFO sighting to sound like. Once alien movies became more popular and regular, more UFO reports have come out, which can mean they are recalling a false past. Most of these cases came when the person was more sleep deprived which can be misjudge as real life when it was a type of hallucination. Now that less people believe in UFO sightings, less people are being tricked into thinking anything suspicious in the sky can be an alien.
