2012

It is crazy to think that the world was supposed to end ten years ago. I remember being in middle school, and everyone talked about it, sharing their ideas on how the world would end. As a kid, I believed it and thought we would die. However, the following day, I woke up and started to question myself and what was happening.

Lecture 4 is about the end of the world. As I was learning about this topic, I found it interesting that people built bunkers and stocked up on canned goods and other nonperishable items, believing the world would end. I also found it interesting that there were different years when different people predicted the world would end. For example, Chris McCann believed the world was going to end on October 7th, 2015, and Sir Isaac Newton said the world was going to end in 2060 for the fifth time.

  1. I remember the 2012 scare also as a kid. I remember how worried I was that the world was going to end and talking about it with my friends. Your take gives me a lot of reminders of the similar experiences I had growing up.

  2. I strongly agree with you the world coming to an end is truly a hard pill to swallow. Despite this fully understanding all of the many ways that the world could possibly come to an end can also help scientists today find ways to prevent this event from occurring if possible. I believe that no one really knows when the world will actually come to an end however all we can do is prepare for it as best as we possibly can. Perhaps this is why so many people keep sullies hidden in their basements and add undergrown bunkers to their homes.

  3. I remember my parents talking about this when I was a kid and I thought it was all just a joke. I guess my young mind couldn't fathom what could've been really happening at the time, but I was also scared a bit. I remember this one day where everyone was talking about the world ending and when I got home from school my parents took us all outside to look at the clouds. The were pointing out ow "strange" they looked and how "the world really was coming to an end. That was a very scary moment for me but now it's funny to look back at and laugh about. It's crazy to see how easy it is for bad news to spread like that and how easily we all believed it.
