2012

Within the last few years many doomsday theories have come out about December 12 2012. Most focus on the reason to be either the galactic alignment, our sun being in line with the center of the Milky Way, or the end of the Mayan calendar. What people don't understand about the Mayan calends is that it has ended three times already.
The Mayan calendar being synchronized with the one we use today is ridiculous. For starters the Mayans based their calendar in cycles of ten while we use a random one. Also, each time the Mayan calendar has ended it meant a new age was starting not that the world would end.
Among the theories of destruction the most involve war, natural disasters, of plague. The War and plague are hard to disprove until they happen. Of the natural disasters most have no scientific evidence that they will happen. The only natural disaster theories with any proof are the ones involving the sun. NASA has noticed that in 2012 the sun will be at the peck of an eleven year cycle and that this cycle has been a more active one than normal. This could lead to mass blackouts and the destruction of electronic systems but would not destroy the Earth.
