Sylvia Browne Famous Psychic or Famous Fraud

Sylvia Browne is a world renowned psychic, but is she actually a psychic or a fraud? She is supposedly able to not only predict the future, but also to talk to your deceased loved ones, find out that person's last words, among many other of her claimed psychic abilities. But who is Sylvia Browne really? Apparently, Sylvia Browne's real name is Sylvia Celeste Shoemaker, the name under which she has been in various legal issues, such as grand theft and investment fraud http://www.stopsylvia.com/articles/peoplevsbrown.shtml ( I guess she forgot to predict her own future on that one.) Now let's get down to business.

Sylvia Browne is well known for her many appearances on the Montel William's show; I myself remember spending days on the couch watching Sylvia Browne making countless predictions of the future, someone's past lives, or a passed away loved one trying to contact them, but something always seemed off. A name Sylvia's given that the questioner doesn't remember, a bizarre reason for death, or sometimes Sylvia would say something that was just completely off. One example is a video seen below where a woman is asking if anyone is ever going to find her husband, and Sylvia starts talking about water, and how there's so much water on the planet that they will never find him. Her husband actually died in the 2001 world trade center attacks. You might be surprised to find out that she actually accepted the James Randi challenge http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/1m-challenge.html . However, the next she started making up questionable excuses why she couldnt do it, stating that she doesn't need the money along with a few other reasons. The real reason is that she probably doesn't want to be proven wrong.

For some reason this woman makes $850 for a single 20 minute phone conversation, but her claims are almost always incorrect. People are still pulled towards her inaccurate claims though. She's still doing well also, and now she has many books out http://www.amazon.com/Sylvia-Brownes-Lessons-life-Browne/dp/1401900879 , a website, and her own business which earns her 3 million dollars per year. The reason for her success must be her extreme confidence. There's something about a psychic who has no hesitation in her words. It's just as if she knows from the start what was going to happen, and many times people are pulled into the persuaion and confidence of someone who has no hesitation in their voice. Also the vulnerability of someone whose loved one has passed away is very high, so they are susceptible to having the wool pulled over their eyes, and that seems to be what Sylvia Browne tactic is. Making a buck off the grieving loved ones is sad to see, but thats what Sylvia Brwne is doing, and although it is sad to say, Sylvia Browne is very good at it.

  1. It is hard to believe that there are "real" psychics out there. A few months ago is what made me really question it. My cousin, Judy, passed away from Ovarian Cancer and her daughter was having a lot of trouble dealing with the loss. She decided to see a psychic (of some sort). The psychic said some very personal and specific facts, that amazed our whole family because what I have heard in the past were psychics that would say such general statements in which many of their "clients" could relate to, but this wasn't the case for my cousin. This makes me wonder if some people really do have a "sixth sense"?!

But of course Sylvia Browne is among the psychic frauds!

  2. I have to be honest I really thought she was one of the real ones. I watched her on the Montel show as well, and I have a co worker who would be crushed if she found out she was a fraud. I thought she had helped the police find missing people? I can't believe she is a fraud, makes me angry that people claim to have these wonderful "abilities" and not only do people believe her but they trust her.
