Beliefs in the Greek Gods

There are so many books, videos and people telling stories about the Greek Olympian Gods. When we were in school they taught us about Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, and others. We know what they are Gods of and their adventures have been, but we forget that all these stories are people's beliefs.

The Greeks believe in the Gods for protection, guide, and good fortune. As many of the stories tell, the Greeks performed ceremonies and sacrifices for the Gods, along with building statues and other shrines to please them. Gods were often feared because they were an immortal man that controlled everything. The belief of the Gods have been around for a very long time, and stories have went around even longer. A common story that everyone knows is the story of when Zeus fought and won a battle over his father Krone's. Stories like this have been changed and passed down overtime.

The belief in these Gods were the result of a religion. Early Paganism believed in them because of their respect for nature, which were ruled by the Gods. The God's adventures were told as advice and guidance for the Greeks. There are still people who believe in the Gods and still give their offerings. The Paganism believed that theses Gods would help their crops along with other problems. Many times they would actually believe that they really did help. Sacrificing people was also taken into consideration when it came to beliefs in the Greek Gods.
Point of View:
I personally love the Greek God stories and do believe that they offer a lot of advice. I don't believe in them enough to sacrifice or worship them. I believe that the Greeks believed in them for the same reason we believe in our God. It helps us live and gives us hope. In my opinion, the Greek Gods are helpful and fascinating. Reading stories and watching movies about them will always be a great past time.

  1. I agree with you. I think the stories of the Greek Gods are really cool, but won't be sacrificing for them any time soon! It's always fun to still believe in the Little Mermaid and her Dad ruling the ocean!!!
