EXTRA POST#5: Handwriting Analysis( and we'll apparently see mine)

Well, ever since I saw that one seen Catwoman where the police guys analyzed Haley Berry-Catwoman's handwriting, I've wondered if it was an actually was a real thing in real life. What I've found is that it's a little more complicated than that. Graphology  is basically the study of person's characteristics through their handwriting alone. This is very shaky, because it bases evidence about a person purely based on how big or small or slanted or straight their handwriting is. Thus, it seems a little silly. However, there are people who study handwriting on the police force, but they distance themselves from graphologist in general, calling it "unreliable". So that crushed my Catwoman dreams.

Here's my graphology results though!:
"You like to keep life in perspective and have a fairly straightforward way of viewing yourself and others. To you, Life is neither a stage nor a tragedy play! Do you find yourself depressed about something in your life about now? You can take it or leave it when party invitation time comes around. That is, some you will take, and others you will kindly decline. Nice. You like to be quite consistent about who you are and what you put out to other people for a personality representing you.
So you don't mind being an original thinker, eh? Well, good for you. The world needs more original people who can get on out there and break a few molds so that we can use the pieces to build new ones. After all, we don't grow as a society either by overwhelming strict compliance to norms, or by total defiance of them either. But you mild original thinkers are a good place to start new ideas brewing. Great. Do you like singing to yourself? Skippy and friends have nothing on you there, eh? You don't mind infecting other people with your optimism and your hopefulness about this world's state of affairs. Should in general make Jean a welcome guest, though certain cynics might sound a call of "Oh, no it's Jean again!" as they see you coming. Seems some people can't stand to be surrounded by such buoyant optimism, and so seem a little less enthusiastic to be around a positive person like yourself. (Maybe they feel threatened by your willingness to be positive?) Well, we all have our days of flux, but it seems that your life might be more like a mad rollercoaster than a quiet peaceful stream in the woods, to put it mildly! You probably have quite a bit of difficulty letting go of things and could be prone to digestive disorders due to your unwillingness to seek peace and quiet. Have you ever thought about why your emotional roller coaster is as it is?"

Filter Bubbles - What we Want Vs. What We Need

Filter Bubbles

What is it?

A filter bubble is a result of a personalized search in which a website's algorithms guesses  applicable information to a user based on his/her past information ( location, click behaviors, search history, online purchases).

A result from this is that users become isolated from the actual information they need and instead gets information based on their "culturalized" viewpoints .

As you see in the picture on the left hand side, a person currently interested in the political conflicts of Egypt gets different results compared to his friend who has not a clue about it.
Another Problem

As our own filter bubbles becomes our own personal, unique resource of information online, we can't really see what information is getting processed in and what information is being left out. Furthermore due to the constant use of technology in recent years, it's harder to stop this problem due to the construction of major marketing schemes on the web.

Netflix Figures Something Out

Netflix researchers were pondering why their queuing system had some movies zipping right up and out of their ques. They realized that some movies such as "Iron Man" zip right out while on the other hand " Waiting for Superman" can take a really long time before it pops up on que.

According to researchers, they've concluded that that their is an "epic struggle" going on between our future aspirational selves and our more impulsive present selves. For example, a lot of us would want to be that person who have watched Rashomon, but as of right now we are more impulsed to watch the whole Home Alone Series because it's comedic.

Is Inception Possible?

Post for Psychology experiment
Many of us have seen the movie Inception which was about a team that actually tries to implant ideas and new concepts into dreams. This movie had sparked my interest and the idea of is it possible to share dreams and really be so in control of your dreams that you can create new architecture and be in control of the characters? After doing some reading it appears that some things from the movie might not be completely far fetched.  Although some concepts like limbo or the idea that one has to die in their dream to wake up are not true at all some things could be possible.  The first step is to understand what is lucid dreaming.  Lucid dreaming is the idea of almost being in control of dream and realizing that it is a dream.  There are actually ways of training yourself to become a lucid dreamer.  The same way that the characters have a sort of totem for a reality check is the same way that a lucid dreamer would do something similar to check whether they are dreaming or not.  For example if you were to look at your hand and count your fingers and you see five for each hand then it is reality, but if you were to do the same thing and you count six fingers or even four then you are in a dream and that is when you can do anything in your dream.  Once one realizes that they are dreaming then the possibilities are endless in what you can do.  Then the other question ask can one communicate with others through lucid dreaming?  This question is a little more unknown, but an advanced lucid dreamer named Robert Waggoner claims that it is possible in his book called Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self.  Therefore, maybe we should take a look at this fictional movie and maybe explore the possibility of creating new worlds in our dreams and exploring our inner unconscious.

Nessie?

Nessie also known as the Loch Ness Monster has been known to supposedly been lurking and haunting the waters of Lake Loch Ness in Britain.  This lake is the largest body of freshwater in Britain and it also just happens to be home to one of the biggest sea monsters ever.  Nessie could be many things but many believe that Nessie is an old water dinosaur that never died and supposedly lurks and lives in this giant body of water.  Many scientist have searched the lake and have not come up with any substantial evidence weather or not this monster lurks these waters.  Many have claimed to have seen it but there are many logical explanations.  Most of these sightings were seen from far away.  The most you see is a shadow.  This could be maybe a loose piece of driftwood.  Also maybe another animal that maybe was taken at a certain angle.  Even to go so far that maybe it could be an elephant truck (which is highly unlikely, but still a little more likely to be possible).  The question also begs what if it is possible that this could be real? The seas and waters are one of the most unexplored parts of our world.  Some say that we know more about the moon than our oceans.  Also, recently they found an ancient shark that existed way back in time off the coast of Japan.  So why can't Nessie exist?  Is it because of a fear of the unknown? Is to protect the people from fear of a sea monster? The world may never really know the truth of Nessie which makes it a mystery.

Big Foot Real?

Many people believe that big foot is real.  Many have claimed to have seen something that relates to a bigfoot.  Bigfoot is also known as a Sasquatch.  These Sasquatches  supposedly vary in sizes as tall as around 8 feet.  They say that they travel in the woods and use highway towers as a highway or guide to get them around.  A lot of us want to believe that these creatures are real but the question begs whether or not it is possible.  The show Finding Bigfoot that came out recently travels around the country and tries to find a sasquatch, but in the show they always seem to come close but they can never show you actual footage of these beast. the closes that they can show you is a heat sensing camera that can only show a big red blob and according to these scientist these are bigfoot sightings.  Now we have to also say that it is not impossible that these creatures could exist.  We have no biological proof as to why they couldn't exist or maybe could've existed. So we always have to look at the possibility that they could very well be alive and maybe just hiding.  Another thing to think about is that myth can very well come from some fact so maybe sasquatch was really just a way to describe a really big gorilla or some kind of ape like creature.

Crop Circles

What are crop circles?
Crop circles are patterns that were created in giant fields. The crop circles are created when areas in the field are tamped down. The crops are not damaged rather flattened down, the crops continuous to grow as normal. The edges of the crop circles are very clean and precise. The pattern of crop circles vary, sometimes the design of crop circles are just simple circles other times its usually very decorative with many interconnecting, geometric shapes. The crop circles have been seen as early as 1500s. In the 17th century English woodcut showed a devilish creature known as "mowing devil" creating such crop circles.
Around 1880s a scientist named John Rand Capron had described the field of wheat being "knocked about" in small patches in a circular spots. He stated that "... I could not trace locally any circumstances accounting for the peculiar forms of the patches in the field ... They were suggestive to me of some cyclonic wind action ..."
Around 1960s and '70s both in England and United States crop circle was beginning to appear. Around 1990s crop circles grabbed the attention of many people, making it a tourist attraction. Around 1990s around 500 crop circles had been created in just Europe. The visitation became so popular that farmers started profiting from thus phenomenon by charging people to see the crop circles.

Alien Abduction

Case 1: 1961 Betty and Barney Hill Abduction

During 1961, a husband and wife were abducted by an alien. According to Betty and Barney Hill, while they were on a short vacation Hills saw a bright object approaching in the evening, they were stopped by the aliens and were experimented on. When they were hypnotized, it was discovered that they were abducted by aliens who had conducted medical experiments on the couple.
According to the couple, the aliens had hypnotized them to keep their abduction a secret. The regression hypnosis helped the Hills illustrate the aliens to be "bald-headed, about five foot tall, with greyish skin, pear shaped heads and slanting cat-like eyes." This description has been used since the Hills have provided with such precise description of the aliens.

Case 2: 1967 The Betty Andreasson Abduction
About 7 years later, another alien abduction story has grabbed the nation's attention. The Betty Andreasson abduction was taken place in the Betty's house. Betty was the mother of seven kids, who were all spending time with their grandparents in the living room, when the abduction occurred. Around 6:30 Betty was in her kitchen, when suddenly a red light beamed into the house. Betty's father had ran to the kitchen to inspect the red beam, when he saw the aliens heading towards him. Their description was the same as the Hills description of the aliens. Betty was missing for four hours, where the aliens had conducted a physical examination, victim was also tested with strange equipment, Betty was given a test which was very painful but resulted in a religious awakening.

Nostradamus Effects Seen in Jonny Bravo and the Titanic?

“Vagueness is ESSENTIAL to fortune telling and cold reading”.

Johnny Bravo

When we learned about Nostradamus and his vague predictions last class, these were the first two things that popped in my mind. The prediction of the destruction of the world trade center during 9/11 and the also the prediction of Titanic sinking. Contrary to Nostradamus cold readings, these two things weren't vague at all. In fact they were eerily similar.

This scene comes from the episode “Chain Gang Johnny”. As you can see on the right hands side depicts a picture of a smoking building engulfed in flames with the words“ coming soon” on top. Having known this episode aired in the year 200, 4 months prior to the happenings of 9/11, I was quite stupefied.

Titanic and the Futility

The novel “Futility” written in 1898 by the author Morgan Robertson, also shows eerie similarities with the sinking of the Titanic.

Here are some similarities:

Name: In Futility, the boat is described as the largest ship of its day and was called the Titan.

Size: The ships were practically the same size, with the Titanic measuring only 25 meters longer.

Date: Both ships, described as “unsinkable,” hit an iceberg and went under in mid-April.

Speed: Both were capable of speeds over 20 knots.

Safety: Despite having thousands of passengers on board, both ships carried the bare legal minimum number of lifeboats

According a researcher, the author of the book was “an experienced seaman, and he saw ships as getting very large and the possible danger that one of these behemoths would hit an iceber

g.”

Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming in its essence is being aware and in control when you’re dreaming. Sleep paralysis is the experience that no one ever wants to associate themselves with. Lucid dreaming on the other hand, is a pleasant one. There are two ways in which you can lucid dream.  The first one being an initiated lucid dream and the second one being the wake initiated technique. For the majority of us that don’t intend to practice lucid dreaming, the probability of entering the lucid dream state is random.

Dream Initiated Lucid Dreaming
Are analogy for this would be a ghost being able to interact instead of observe. When experiencing a dream you can’t really do anything, but just observe. A dream initiated lucid dream is being in a dream and finally realizing that your presence can alter events.

Wake Initiated Technique
A wake initiated lucid dream is entering the dream world in a state of consciousness. There are no apparent lapses of consciousness and you have a sense of yourself having an out of body experience. It tends to happen when you’re physically tired, but you have something very pressing on your mind.
What happens then?
A lucid dream is an out of body experience when you’re in control of all 5 senses and an experience in which you decides what happens next. In a sense it’s more realistic than an actual dream even though you could do something like flying. Some dreams are also quite blurred, but lucid dreams are experienced with full clarity. Lastly, you can just do about everything imaginable in this dream.
It helps your overcome personal issues and fears. So… That monster under your bed, won’t be a monster anymore as you imagine wielding the most destructive weapon on Earth incinerating it to oblivion!

Graphology test : Extra Post

Online Graphology Test

I was asked to write a paragraph on Alice's adventures in wonderland by
Lewis Carroll
'Well!' thought Alice to herself, 'after such a fall as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs! How brave they'll all think me at home! Why, I wouldn't say anything about it, even if I fell off the top of the house!' (Which was very likely true.)
Then i was asked a couple of questions according to my handwriting.  Such as:

1. What is the size of your handwriting?
  • Large, greater than 7mm
  • Middle size 4-6mm
  • Small 2-3mm
  • Extremely small, less than 2mm
According to the answers My personality: Characteristics include being accurate, logical, and composed. You have an artistic nature and are able to understand and interpret your emotions and those of other people. You also to tend to hold your emotions back, or keep them inside. You are friendly, and warm, and like to engage in conversation.Letters slanting so much that they touch the line point to possible psychological issues.

Im not so artistic but I am very friendly and warm and yes i like engaging in conversation but thats usually with people I'm comfortable with or friends with not just anyone. This was very vague and i don't have any physical issues i doth know but i really don't believe in this stuff. I also asked my brother to take the same test and his reading was completely opposite to his personality. It said he was insecure problematic and a revel but he is completely secure friendly and never in trouble or problematic.

Nostradamus : Most of the quatrains deal with disasters, such as plagues, earthquakes, wars, floods, invasions, murders, droughts, and battles—all undated and based on foreshadowings by the Mirabilis Liber. Some quatrains cover these disasters in overall terms; others concern a single person or small group of people. Some cover a single town, others several towns in several countries. A major, underlying theme is an impending invasion of Europe by Muslim forces from farther east and south headed by the expected Antichrist, directly reflecting the then-current Ottoman invasions and the earlier Saracen equivalents, as well as the prior expectations of theMirabilis Liber. All of this is presented in the context of the supposedly imminent end of the world—even though this is not in fact mentioned—a conviction that sparked numerous collections of end time prophecies at the time, not least an unpublished collection by Christopher Columbus. I watched a documentary a couple of years ago and actually believed many of this but than to The pseudoscience and paranormal I've learned to not be so naive to believe such vague predictions such as this now that I watched the same documentary once again i am more skeptic about it.

Dreams Come true!
This statement is true in my family, Im not saying we are witches or psychics all Im doing is speaking the truth. My grandmother my mom and I dream things with meaning and that actually happen and I'm not talking about "oh i dreamed with a dog so that means best friend and this means that my best friend and I will be good friends forever." Im talking dreaming something that will happen exactly the next day. For example my mother had dreamed that the door bell ringed and it was one of her friends coming to the house to tell her she was getting married, then she left and came back again. She woke up and told the story to my father and my grandmother During breakfast the door bell ringed and It was the same friend she had the dream with saying she was bringing the invitation for her weeding but that she hadn't brought the venue confirmation because she though they were still in their vacation so she left and came back to bring them the venue confirmation so they can also assist to the venue. Thats one out of many stories one of my most painful dreams that came true was me dreaming that my great grandfather had past away during those days he had been sick but unexpectedly got better. In my dream i seen him in a suit all dressed up but laying still and i reached to touch him and he was cold i woke up crying and told my mother about my dream, hours later we got a call saying he had passed away. So on we have many dreams that happened and have come true mostly just about our family or close friends things that will happen to us or people close to us. I don't know how or why this happens to the three of us but whatever it is Ive lived through it and no one can tell me other wise. This is my personal experience with dreams coming true.

La Casa Matusita
La Casa Matusita is an innocuous-looking yellow building in Lima’s center, at the intersection of Garcilaso de la Vega and España. However, many, many Peruvians claim it is haunted. The legend goes that the house was the scene of a horrible crime; one story claims that a Japanese-Peruvian slaughtered his family and then committed suicide, while another holds that a formal dinner party turned into a massacre after the guests were given hallucinogens. Ever since, reports are that the second floor has been haunted, with no one able to enter and maintain his or her sanity. In the 1960s, a television reporter was alleged to have gone crazy after entering the building in an effort to prove believers wrong. The second floor remains allegedly remains vacant. Skeptics have another explanation, however. They say that the ghost stories were invented by the US Embassy, which was located next door during the height of the Cold War. The diplomats feared that someone hiding in the house could spy on the embassy, and fabricated the stories to keep people out.

Graphology Test

I decided to take a Graphology test online that required me to write a few sentences in my own handwriting and then sign my name in order to test my results.
This is what they had me write:

"Civilization means refinement. It means replacing savage habits by good ones. The savage condition of man is barbarism. Civilization means getting away from barbarism. Man is civilized when he works for the good of the society.
(New Paragraph)Something happened today and you start supporting or condemning it without thinking about its future effects is obviously not sign of a civilized person.
(New Paragraph)Overall, we can conclude that a man who is unselfish and is fine with others is a civilized one. The line between good and bad is what separates a civilized and uncivilized person."
I automatically noticed several spelling and grammar mistakes within the paragraph and wondered if they would skew the result.

My results were:

"Kyrstin, your handwriting reveals that you are an extrovert and spontaneous. You need a lot of space, unwilling to concentrate or confine your energies on the small details of life. You're quick in your responses and possess spontaneity.
Kyrstin, the above is only a glimpse of your personality which we concluded from analyzing just two of your 11 handwriting traits - Size & Speed. We have prepared your 14-page Personalized Handwriting Analysis Report which will show your complete and true personality based upon the detailed analysis of all of your 11 handwriting traits- Slant, Style, Stroke, Baseline, Margins, Spacing, Pressure, Size, Speed, Zones, Signature. Kyrstin, it's time you get to know yourself better."

Funny, I'm definitely not an extrovert nor am I spontaneous. The rest, interestingly enough, required a membership that you had to pay for.
Everything they said was pretty general and I think it speaks for itself. It's totally unrealistic.

Pishtacos

Pishtacos are also known as "fat vampires" as they are supernatural creatures that use their magic to rob passing travelers of their fat. The legends concerning them had died off in popularity, but lately, reported gang activity in Peru helped to bring the popularity back. The gangsters had knocked people unconscious, kidnapped them, and actually rendered them into actual fat. They sold them on the black market but were caught and arrested. (Scary and gross...)

Many don't believe the stories concerning the gangsters as no other valuable body parts were touched and the murders were never truly proven. It just goes along with the urban legend of pishtacos and their ability to eat the fat of humans to remain immortal. (1)

No one really has much evidence concerning this urban legend.

Black Eyed Children

Recently, the strange phenomena of black eyed children came up again, after years of no activity. Black eyed children are supposedly supernatural creatures who resemble children but have extremely pale skin and black eyes. They are reportedly seen hitchhiking or even appearing on the porches of unsuspecting people.

They say the story began with Brian Bethel and gained popularity from him in the late 90's and died off, but recently there have been reports of sightings in the UK and several stories have been published since then.

They are related slightly to vampiric legends in that you have to invite them into your home in order for them to enter.

There haven't been any reports of death from these sightings, but many speculate they are bad omens or are just strange apparitions. But I think we can all admit the concept is creepy.

Aromatherapy and my experience!!

The claims of Aromatherapy are that it can heal or cure pain, illnesses or maybe even diseases. Dating back to 400 B.C used in places like China and India. Aromatherapy is the inhalation of plant oils, called essential oils, for improved physical, mental, and emotional well being. On November 6th, 2014 I attended a Wellness event called " Living An Aromatherapy Life." I actually thought that the event was boring and didn't show credibility that aromatherapy works. All we did was watch slides and smelled some essential oils, that she had in a shoe box. The speaker said that what she uses all the time instead of medicine. For example if she has a headache she "smells" peppermint oil. Although I did not try peppermint oil for a headache I did tell her I had a stuffed up nose. The speaker let me try an essential oil for that, she said that it would clear it up. I did not clear my stuffy nose but i was able to smell peppermint the whole time. Even though I didn't believe that aromatherapy works, however I did win a door prize! An essential oil used for cramping or back pain!

FLDS

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as the FLDS, is probably one of the most frightening examples of what a selfish thinker can accomplish when surrounded by naïve thinkers.  Warren Jeffs is the founder of this church, and is probably one of the most manipulative men in the world.  He led the branch of the Mormon Church until he was convicted of two felony counts of child sexual assault in 2007.  Besides these counts, he was also charged with eight other counts of various sexual misconducts.  In a television series on TLC, they highlighted the indecent conditions in which the women had to live.  Women were told, ever since they were little, to just “keep sweet” when men treated them poorly.  And when a woman would act out, she would be taken from her family and married off to another man within the church.  “Breaking the Faith” was cancelled after only one season, but it showed many people just how dangerous a selfish thinker can be when given the right opportunity.  Here is a clip of the show.  It’s more of a summary and is pretty intense.  Enjoy!

Illuminati Conspiracy

Illuminati Conspiracy
It is believed that Illuminati consist of many powerful and elite people, they are either seeking to rule the world or they are already in control of the world. Defining exactly the concept of Illuminati conspiracy is extremely difficult because over the years the conspiracy was altered and had additional conspiracy added. Illuminati is a secret society that had began by Jesuit priests, and then was conducted by five councilmen. Their mission was to gain super power, all they wanted to achieve was world domination for a higher power. Its believed Illuminati is involved in politics, religion, world’s economic system. Many of the big organizations with incredible amount of power like United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the International Criminal Court are accused of being part of Illuminati. It is believed that Illuminati is responsible for controlling the mind of average human beings, by altering our thought process, press, educational curriculum, and political leadership. It is believed that Illuminati has a very strong grip on the major banks. The illuminatus control how the economy is throughout the whole world, they control  recessions, inflations, and depressions.  Illuminati is creating the “New World Order,” where they will be the leader and controller of the whole world.
Illuminati is such a popular and well known conspiracy amongst everyone, especially adolescent and young adults. Everyone seems to suspect powerful and popular celebrities to be an Illuminati. Many people like to correlate a celebrities success with illuminati. Any celebrities that would make any hand gestures would automatically be connected to and associated with Illuminati. The illuminati conspiracy has become very powerful and extremely bizarre over the past few years. It no longer focuses on couple of guys wanting to seek full power of the world, but rather associates celebrity with selling their souls to illuminati for fame.

The following video provides some facts about illuminati: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26rLYghPDsc

Cell Phones Interfere with Plane Instruments

Never mind what the 'Know-it-all' in the seat next to you says about cell phones messing with plane navigation — those metallic birds are built airtight against foreign signals and operate on entirely different frequencies than cell phones.
So why all the fuss about phones? When you make a call at 10,000 feet, the signal bounces off multiple available cell towers, rather than one at a time. That means too many phone-happy jetsetters might clog up the networks on the ground, which is why the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) — not the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) — banned cell use on planes.
If you're just dying to bust out your BlackBerry mid-flight, go international. Some airlines in Europe, the Middle East and Asia now allow cell phone use in planes, but don't hold your breath for the FCC to follow suit.

Beans = Farts

Beans, beans, the musical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot
The more you toot, the better you feel
So we have beans at every meal!

This myth confirmation makes scientific sense, because beans are packed with a type of sugar called oligosaccharides. As bacteria in the large intestine work hard to break down these macromolecules, they release gas in the process. Unfortunately, that gas needs to go somewhere, and its escape route is often in the form of flatulence.

Surf City Hotel

I chose to write about the Surf City Hotel in Long Beach Island, NJ because it is local to both Stockton and where I live. The hotel was built in the late 1800's, and is rumored to be haunted because of a ship wreck that occurred just off of the shore. The ship wreck was the Powhattan accident that occurred on March 1st of 1854. The ship had been making voyages for decades until a storm off the coast of New Jersey ended its journeys. The ship was sailing from port of Le Havre in France to New York City. Aboard the ship was several hundred people, including around 200 German immigrants.
The ship encountered the storm and was sent off course and closer to shore around 5:00 p.m. The ship was then able to remain intact until the next day when it broke apart, resulting in the deaths of between 200 and 365 crew and passengers. This made it one of the worst ship accidents in New Jersey history. This connects to the Surf City Hotel because several of the bodies that washed ashore were taken to the hotel to be identified. Since the bodies were there for a few days, this ended up reportedly turning the place haunted to this current day. Has anyone ever been to this hotel and experienced anything paranormal?

Mdeical Marijuana

There are some beliefs out there that some plants can heal us in some way. But what about marijuana? Do you believe in legalizing it to assist certain people who might have Aids, Cancer or maybe even seizures or any other ailments? But what about a child who suffers form seizures? Well take a look at the case of Charlotte Figi, she started having seizures soon after birth. By the age of 3, she was having 300 a week, despite being on several different medications. Medical marijuana has calmed her brain, limiting her seizures to 2 or 3 per month.

Haunted Hollywood Sign

The story of the Hollywood sign Los Angeles California has been reported by many witnesses that it's haunted. But who and why? Her name was Peg Entwistle, she was thrilled when RKO signed her for the role of Hazel in the murder mystery Thirteen Women starring Irene Dunne, but the film got such poor reviews from the critics that the studio held back its general release so it could be re edit the film. Her studio options with RKO were eventually dropped , leaving her to battle depression once again. The reports are that on September 18, 1932 after a night of drinking and overwhelming depression, Peg told her uncle Harold that she was going to go meet up with some friends. But instead, Peg would scratch and claw her way up to the rocky slope of Mt. Lee to the base of the Hollywood sign. Once there, she removed he black  and silk coat, folded it neatly and place it along side her stylish purse, which contained a suicide note. At the base of the 50 foot high electrician's ladder which led up to the " H ". Then she would climb up to the ladder-losing one of her new shoes along the way - and, after peering out over the twinkling lights of the city that represented her hopes and dreams, a perform a perfect swan dive into the ground. She was more than likely to be killed instantly! She was only 24 years old. One of the claims are smelling the scent of gardenias around even when there are no flowers around, noticed a women wearing clothing from the 1930's. They noticed a lady however, seemed to be walking in a daze. Thinking that perhaps she was drunk or on drugs, they started to steer clear of her when she suddenly just faded away before their eyes. At that time they didn't know who Peg Entwistle was or even if someone has committed suicide there before. I would like to hear feedback, has anyone been there and have any experiences?

Man-killing Monsters = Female=Man-killing Monsters?

Post # 4:Man-killing Monsters?=Female=Man-killing Monsters?:
In many a mythology, the downfall of mankind is more often than not, something female. In Greek mythology, the Siren's song("sirens" according to myth, are half-bird, half-women) lures sailors to their death. In Egyptian mythology, in one famous myth, the goddess Hathor(or Bastet) does too good a job of punishing mankind for its wickedness, draining so much of men's blood that even the god Ra, who gave Hathor the order to punish humanity in the first place, grows frightened of Hathor and the zeal she showed in fulfilling her actions. And in Japanese mythology, kitsune are sort of for shape-shifters who(as normally fox-like creatures) take on the forms of women to attract and/or kill man to (possibly) gain power. But why are these powerful creatures female? It could have to do with idea of the wonam as "the other"-a species seperate from men that want to either nurture or do harm to men in genreal. Whatever the reason, I hope that would help you stop and think the next time you cheer for the big, strong male hero to destroy that evil demon seductress.

Like...Fairy-tales?

Post 3#: Like...Fairy-tales?
Brothers Grimm(or rather, the two Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm) are perhaps best known for their collection of fairy tales. The Brothers Grimm's stories(many of which were based off German folktales and village oral traditions) are hailed as classics, and I would be lying if I said that I don't think that they deserve such recognition, but my problem isn't so much with the stories themselves but with people's reception to(or maybe people's interpretation of) said stories' events. Many people seem to want "the Cinderella story" a "fairy tale wedding" or for their problems to go away "like magic". Writing their stories, what the Brothers Grimm is to teach about human nature, give cautionary tales and illustrated how cruel the world can be when the odds aren't in your favor. To me at least, to say you want your life to "be like a fairy-tale" implies that you would either want all the awards a fairy-tale can give with none of the work involves, or (and this is important) you would want yourself to befall the very hardships the Brothers Grimm wanted you avoid in the first place. Because stories aren't simply meant to entertain-your meant to learn from them too, after all.

Superstitious Christian Roots

Post 2#:Superstitious Christian Roots:
A lot of, what I like to call, "old world" superstitions seem to have some very Christian roots.

For example, the idea that crossing underneath a ladder is bad luck comes from the idea that each point of the ladder
-(pictured here) -    represents part of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit) an crossing underneath one would "break it", thus breaking the Trinity.

Throwing spilt salt over your shoulder is meant to be good luck because it blinds the devil on your shoulder, thus stopping you from causing your own bad luck through temptation.

Likewise, the number 7 is supposed to be good luck because it represents the 6 days before and the one day of the Sabbath,

Just as a disclaimer: none of these superstitions are necessarily guaranteed to give you good or bad luck.
*And all images are from Google.

ON the the other hand, they aren't guaranteed not to work either. Superstitions are funny that way.
It's interesting to see how these superstitions came about and it sheds a lot lot of light how the "old world" superstitions still have an affect on us today.

Why do people believe in the zombie apocalypse?

If you're a die-hard fan of the Walking Dead, or have any belief that a zombie apocalypse may happen, this is probably not the article for you. Lately, TV shows about brain-eating zombies and post-apocalyptic worlds have exploded with popularity. At first, I thought it was just a fad. Sure, it can be fun to talk about zombies or watch them mull around aimlessly on television, but lately it seems that most people are convinced an apocalypse is actually going to happen. A prime example is the National Geographic reality series called Doomsday Preppers. This show broadcasts live families that are stocking up on arsenals of guns, food rations, survival equipment and creating bomb shelters in their own backyards. Now, let's keep in mind that this show is called REALITY TELEVISION, much like those ridiculous MTV shows and Jerry Springer. However, the families shown on this series are fully convinced that economic or societal collapse is just around the corner....

I read an article on Cracked. com that brought forth 5 reasons why a "zombie apocalypse is scientifically possible". Let me reiterate their idea: apparently, there is a parasite called toxoplasmosa gondii, which infects rats, and causes them to be "mindless, zombie-like slaves". The parasite infects the rat, but can only "breed inside the intestines of cats". So, the article goes on to say that the infection takes over the rat's brain and makes the rat scurry toward cats so it will be eaten... So, how does this even relate to humans? Let's continue the read. It says that apparently, "half the earth's population is infected with toxoplasmosa" and that it will "only take a more evolved version of toxoplasmosa" before we end up like those rats. If you're reading this and it makes no sense, it's probably because this article was designed to run around in circles because what they are presenting is, unfortunately, total bulls***. If you look up toxoplasmosa even on a simple search engine like Wikipedia, you will find that the information Cracked. com presented on their website is skewed half-truths mixed up with fancy words that catch your attention. The only way toxoplasmosa is transmittable to humans is through eating infected meat, or more graphically, eating the feces of a cat infected with the parasite. Yes, you literally have to eat cat poop to catch this parasite. So why is this article, like millions of other articles on the internet, serving us with half-truths and trying to make us believe in such a far-fetched idea?

Maybe people believe in the idea of the "end all" because they are unhappy with the world today. Maybe people love these shows because there is a hero and a villain, and we all want to become the hero. Or maybe, we have a morbid fascination with our deaths and if we will go out in a blaze of glory. Personally, I do not buy into the hype of zombie apocalypse or the idea of the world ending. Friends, our fate is something that we cannot foresee.

Subliminal Messaging

It has been said that people are subject to subliminal messages in movies, music, television shows and other means of entertainment. Subliminal messages are words, images, or sounds that may be completely ignored by the conscious brain and be beyond the conscious perception.

The theory holds, and is getting less popular, that subliminal messages are perceived by the subconscious or unconscious mind. Sine the conscious mind doesn't have time to rationalize or analyze these messages, people might more easily accept them.

Disney movies have become somewhat famous for having bizarre things written in the backgrounds of their movies. I have put some images of some things people have noticed.

You can take this fun test to see how perceptive your mind is and train yourself to see subliminal messages.

Lucid Dreaming

A lucid dream is a dream in which the person dreaming is actually aware that they are dreaming allowing the dreamer to control what they do in their dreams.  A few things you can do to increase your chances of lucid dreaming you can do a number of things for example writing down your dreams in the morning, and napping can also increase your chances ultimately because lucid dreams are more common during naps. Waking up in the middle of the night and then going back to sleep can definitely increase the chances and thinking about a certain dream or fantasy you would like to have right before you go to sleep can help you lucid dream about the scenario you want to have
